‘Fortunate’ — в значении «мне повезло» когда ты что-то имеешь, например, отношения.

Пример: «I’m fortunate to have friends in America.» — «Мне очень повезло, что у меня есть друзья в России».

Но если, вы вдруг встретите этих самых друзей из Америки в торговом центре — это будет удача — luck.

Актер, который получил большую роль в кино, скажет I’m fortunate — потому что получение этой роли, стало результатом его труда.

Если вы выиграете в лотерею, конечно, это чистая удача, и они скажут I was lucky.

Что касается «you are blessed« — имеет тоже значение, что и you are fortunate.

My good fortune was a result of learning Russian and watching YouTube videos, and contacting people from the videos. It was good luck as well, but would be seen as ‘fortunate’ since other factors were involved.

If I were walking down the street or in a shopping center and I bumped into someone who was Russian and we started talking and became friends, that would be lucky, because it was based only on ‘blind luck’ with no preparation.

If an actor or actress gets a big break in movies or TV, they can be considered ‘lucky’ since so many are trying to do the same thing, but if they’ve taken acting classes and have been doing things to improve their chances of getting a big role, it would be better to say they are fortunate, since they did things over the years to help them get the role.

If someone wins a lottery where millions of people bought tickets, that would be considered luck, because everyone had the same chances. ‘Luck’ implies the recipient did nothing to bring on the ‘lucky’ event, except maybe buy a lottery ticket.
